A project to transform an historic part of Carlisle city centre into luxury living accommodation is nearing completion.
Work to convert Portland Square – an area built for the” great and good” of Carlisle in the 1870s – into luxurious homes while preserving the history of the square is set to be complete in the coming months, finalising the construction at the popular development from Cumbrian developer Halston Homes.
An open day to showcase the last remaining townhouses available at Portland Square South is being held by selling agents Fine & Country Cumbria on Friday, May 2.
The Portland Square South development is a mix of five to six bedroom homes and two bedroom apartments which have been uniquely and individually designed around the full restoration of historic Grade 2 exteriors. The properties are fitted with modern interior designs, and include private parking spaces and electric vehicle charging capabilities.
The first phase of the development sold out within a month of the sales launch, and interest in the final remaining properties is set to be equally as high.
Portland Square South is a popular development in Carlisle City Centre.

The area includes 5 Portland Square, a home built by the then Mayor of Carlisle, Joseph Huthart, and Hamilton House at 15 Portland Square, which was built as a private girls’ school.
Portland Square South’s open day will take place on Friday, May 2, between 11am-3pm, and guests will get the opportunity to view an available townhouse and two apartments.
