A Grade-II* listed mansion has won a major tourism award for the second year running for providing a unique experience to its guests.
Netherby Hall was named the best Self-Catering Accommodation Provider of the Year at the 2025 Cumbria Tourism Awards, retaining the title it won last year.
The venue offers nine luxury self-catering apartments and cottages within 36 acres of private parkland and gardens in Longtown, near Carlisle.
Visitors to Netherby Hall can enhance their stay with bespoke experience packages, allowing them to tailor their visit with exclusive activities such as horse-drawn carriage rides to the nearby Michelin-starred Pentonbridge Inn and guided tours of the Grade II* listed mansion.

Cumbria Tourism Award judges said: “Unusually, Netherby Hall won this same category last year. Their continued development over the last year has been remarkable.
“They have achieved an outstanding level of quality across all aspects of their business, with an experiential offer which goes far beyond a normal self-catering stay in a less well-known, but very beautiful, part of Cumbria.”
Netherby Hall was presented with its award during Cumbria Tourism’s 50th anniversary celebration at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on Tuesday evening (July 8).
The prestigious venue was among winners across 18 categories who were all honoured for their contributions to the region’s £4.1 billion visitor economy.
Netherby Hall’s continued success follows a recent multi-million-pound renovation from owners Gerald and Margo Smith.
The team has made several improvements to its accommodation in the past year, with all properties now featuring upgraded beds. A private hot tub has also been installed at one of the lodges.
Additionally, a dedicated dog exercise area has been created to enhance the venue’s dog-friendly credentials.
The estate’s grounds also include a walled garden which supplies fresh produce to Pentonbridge Inn and ingredients for Netherby Hall’s own house-distilled gin and rum.
