Michelin-starred restaurant shortlisted for three awards

A MICHELIN-starred Cumbrian restaurant has been shortlisted for three regional awards.

Pentonbridge Inn, near Carlisle, has been named a finalist in three categories in the Cumbria Food Awards 2024, which recognise and celebrate excellence in the county’s hospitality industry.

The fine dining restaurant, which gained its first Michelin star last year, has been shortlisted for Restaurant of the Year, while Head Chef Chris Archer is in the running for Chef of the Year. General Manager, Ross Bell, is a finalist in the new category of Service of the Year, which shines a light on a front-of-house team member.

Chris said: “Cumbria is home to a thriving hospitality scene so to be nominated in three categories is a fantastic achievement for the team. I think it reflects the dedication and hard work of the whole team and our commitment to ensuring our guests have a memorable experience from exceptional service to excellent food and drink.

“We wish all the finalists the best of luck and are looking forward to the awards evening in March.”

Now in their third year, the Cumbria Food Awards will take place at Kendal College on Thursday, March 14. This year’s ceremony will be presented by TV presenter and chef Simon Rimmer, who is best known for presenting Sunday Brunch.

Simon will unveil the winners of 15 categories which are judged by an independent panel of judges. The free-to-enter awards attracted more than 1,400 entries and public nominations in 2023.

Pentonbridge Inn is one of 11 Michelin starred restaurants in Cumbria, with the county holding the most Michelin stars outside of London.

The restaurant, which sits in countryside close to the Scottish border at Penton in North Cumbria, offers an eight-course set tasting menu, with Chris working closely with the garden team at nearby Netherby Hall to source the seasonal ingredients which influence his dishes, adapting to the seasons and growing conditions.

Pentonbridge Inn is open Wednesday to Saturday. The eight-course set tasting menu is also available Friday and Saturday lunchtimes.
