Cumbrian pet stores host dog-friendly charity celebration weekend

A CHARITY celebration weekend is being held across three of WCF’s Pet & Equestrian stores in Cumbria later this month to mark the launch of its own brand dog food.

Dog owners can treat their four-legged friends to a range of dog-friendly experiences including a doggie selfie stand, free goodie bags and an afternoon tea designed especially for dogs.

There will also be free nutritional advice as well as one-to-one sessions for solving common pet problems at the in-store events which take place at WCF’s Cockermouth store on Friday, September 29, its Penrith store on Saturday, September 30, and at Ulverston on Sunday, October 1.

Throughout the weekend, WCF will be raising money for Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs, which trains, develops and deploys dogs to search for missing people on the Lake District fells. Individual stores will also be raising money for their own chosen charity of the year.

The celebration weekend marks the launch of WCF’s premium brand dry dog food, The Lakes Collection, which has been inspired by the company’s long-standing Cumbrian heritage and connection with the Lake District.

Jade Earley, General Manager of WCF Pet & Equestrian, said: “We’ve got some really exciting activities planned and we can’t wait to welcome customers through the doors at different stores each day. Everyone is welcome to come along.

“Our team are all passionate about animals and will be on hand to share their knowledge and expert tips on pet care, as well as saying hello to owners and their dogs, who can enjoy the extra special treats we have especially for them.

“The events aim to celebrate everything we love about dogs, as well as marking WCF’s intrinsic links with the Lake District and Cumbria, which were established more than 100 years ago when the company was founded in the county.

“By supporting Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs, we are able to give something back in recognition of the brilliant work they do.”

The events will also feature pop-up shops from local artists and makers, with each store showcasing different businesses. There will be a free prize draw to win WCF vouchers and competitions including the opportunity to become WCF’s next Top Canine Model, with any dog which has its photo taken at the in-store selfie stand having the chance to star in a social media campaign for the pet stores.

The dog-friendly afternoon tea will include doggie ice cream and Pawsecco among other treats.

WCF Pet & Equestrian’s new premium Lakes Collection range includes four products: Lakes Legacy, Lakes Heritage, Lakes Established and Lakes Pioneer. Manufactured in the UK from responsibly sourced ingredients, it is high in quality protein and contains naturally sourced vitamins and minerals with no artificial colours or preservatives. The range has been specifically designed to suit different nutritional needs, with staff on hand to offer advice on the best product for your pet.

The Lakes Collection launch events run from 10am to 4pm in different stores each day, with each branch hosting its own programme of activities. For more information, visit the Facebook pages for the Cockermouth, Penrith and Ulverston stores. Future launch events are planned at WCF Pet & Equestrian’s two other Cumbrian stores at Carlisle and Wigton, as well as its branches in Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway; Skipton in North Yorkshire; and Claughton in Lancashire. Free goodie bags for dogs available on a first come, first served basis.

WCF Pet & Equestrian is part of the WCF part employee-owned family of businesses which operates across the UK in the retail, leisure and logistics sectors. WCF was founded in Whitehaven in 1911 and has its headquarters in Brampton, near Carlisle.
