Fans invited to name specially brewed Holker Street beer

FOOTBALL fans will score for their club every time they enjoy a pre-match pint as part of a special collaboration between Barrow AFC and leading Cumbrian brewery, Lakeland Brewhouse.

A new beer has been developed and brewed for Holker Street’s popular Crossbar and is due to go on sale in a matter of weeks.

It will also be available in bottles and in cask at local pubs, and in Christmas gift sets that make the perfect gift for Barrow AFC fans.

Supporters have the chance to play a historic role in its introduction – by thinking of a memorable name for the golden brew.

A competition is launched today, with the winner securing hospitality tickets for a future home game along with four cases of the yet-to-be-named nectar

Jamie Stoddart, commercial director at Barrow AFC said: “It has been a fantastic season so far, with plenty of excitement and action on the pitch.

“Behind the scenes, we have been putting a lot of time and energy into this fantastic collaboration with the guys at Lakeland Brewhouse and are very pleased with the results.

“Now it’s over to the fans to play a part in what will be a momentous occasion for the club – the unveiling of our very own, specially brewed beer.”

The team at Lakeland Brewhouse spent weeks developing a perfectly balanced ale before moving into full production.

Every time a pint of the beer is sold at the Crossbar, the club will receive a royalty.

Kirsty Ridge is the managing director of Lakeland Brewhouse. She said: “Our talented team have developed, tested and brewed a beer that we hope will be a roaring success – but it is missing a vital ingredient. A name.

“The beer is bright gold with a subtle fruit aroma and a crisp finish. It comes in at 4.3% and makes for a very pleasant pint.

“Now it’s over to the fans. We’re hopeful the beer will be on sale for many years to come so getting the name right is very important.

“Think beer, think football, think Barrow, think the Bluebirds – or wherever your imagination takes you. We can’t wait to hear people’s ideas.”

The competition runs until Sunday 7th November. If you have an idea for the beer name, you should visit the Lakeland Brewhouse Facebook or Instagram page @lakelandbrewhouse or visit www.lakelandbrewhouse.co.uk and click the link for the competition.

The competition is open to over-18s only and proof of age may be requested. Full terms and conditions can be found on the Lakeland Brewhouse Facebook page.
